Burma Army Soldiers Capture and Kill Chin Pastor During Attacks; Thousands More Fleeing Into Hiding

Chin State, Burma

In Chin State, the Burma Army continues its attacks, indiscriminately killing civilians and destroying villages. Below are reports from a team leader in Chin State.


Pastor Captured and Killed

  • On 11 December 2021, Pastor Om Ki was killed by the Burma Army. He was walking near the Sky Palace Hotel when the Burma Army first arrested him. They kept him overnight and brought him with them the next morning as they began moving. They did not walk far and then the Burma Army shot him in the head. Pastor Om Ki is single and from the Church of Christ. This year the Burma Army has killed two pastors. The other one was from Thantlang Town and was killed on 18 September 2021.

Villages Attacked and Destroyed

  • On 28 December 2021, the Burma Army burned down approximately 10 houses in Chaungkhuah Village. In the evening, at least one helicopter fired into and burned down houses in Nat Myaung, Nat Chaung, and Chaungkhuah Villages. Phone communication between loved ones has been difficult.

  • On 28 December 2021, the Burma Army continued to set fire to Hakhalay Village, Kalay Township, and arrested people. Over 5000 people fled to Webula area in Chin State, Falam Township. The IDPs were from Natchaung, Natmyaung, Chaungkhuah, and Hakhalay villages, in Kalay Township, Sagaing Division.

80-Year-Old Grandmother Killed by Indiscriminate Gunfire

  • On 29 Dec 2021, in Hakhalay Village, Kalay Township in the Sagaing region, the Burma Army entered the village and began shooting. They hit and killed 80-year-old Pi Pi Thluai Men.
