FBR REPORT: Burma Army Landmine Kills Karen Woman, 5 months Pregnant

Nyaunglebin District, Western Karen State, Burma

25 May, 2006

A Burma Army landmine killed a Karen woman who was 5 months pregnant when she stepped on it. Burma Army LIB 367 laid landmines around Hsaw Mi Lu Village in Nyaunglebin District, western Karen State, Burma. Naw Ku Geh Paw was 34 years old and five months pregnant when she died.

There are currently over 8,000 people in hiding in Nyaunglebin District and Burma Army troops continue to patrol in all three townships of Nyaunglebin District, Karen State, Burma.

The total number of IDPs in Nyaunglebin, Toungoo and Muthraw Districts is now over 15,000.
